Many manufacturing, Businesses in America have overseas clients who purchase their goods on credit. The last decade saw an explosion of global business being done over the internet, and with that an explosion of international bad debt.
When a Business or Company gives an international client credit, they must follow through on more extensive credit checks, than they would extend to a local or regional business. When an overseas Business client does not pay their bill, a huge headache can be created for the American company to try and collect on a bad debt.
In-house attempts through the Accounts Receivable department can prove extremely time consuming when trying to collect delinquent accounts. Coupled with the factor of an overseas companies unwillingness or inability to pay, are potential language barriers, time zone differences and cultural differences in communicating. While the process of collecting debts from an overseas firm or client is much the same as a domestic one, a specialized Collection Agent has access to overseas databases, to determine if a client can pay their bills.
When a Collection Agency receives any Businesses debt portfolio, they may contract out delinquent overseas debts to a local agency. Overseas business who owe bad debts, are often much more likely to respond to requests for payments from a licensed Collection Agent in their own country. Often times, contracting out international debt recovery, means that the overseas Collection Agency can register a debt faster at a credit bureau, or commence Court proceedings in a timely manner.
